President’s Message

Members of the Utah IAAI,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to report that we are going to be able to start having our conference again. The board has been working really hard this last year to bring you the best conference that we can, to increase your knowledge base and experience. This year’s conference will be held from February 27th through March 2nd, and should give us some excellent instruction on investigating electrical fires, fatal fires with multiple agencies and wildland fires.

If you go to the training tabs on this web page you should be able to find an agenda for the conference, a link to sign up on the IAAI website, and a link to sign up for your hotel rooms. Another thing that we are going to offer this year is a virtual attendance. Understanding that during the pandemic that some agencies may have reduced training funds or some departments may still not be allowing travel we are putting the finishing touches on a virtual delivery of our entire conference. With that being said, I will say that if you are able to attend in person you should, because there is definitely, something to be said about actually getting your hands on and being up close to see many of the objects that are used for these classes. We also unfortunately will not be able to bring the outdoor demonstrations at the airport to you virtually. Not only that it is definitely a pleasure being able to see everyone and to network with the other investigators. Besides who doesn’t like spending a few days in Wendover? HAHA!

I would also like to announce that The Utah Chapter of the IAAI will host it’s Annual General Meeting on February 28, 2022 at 0800 hours. This meeting will also be held virtually for our membership if you are unable to make it to the in person meeting this year. If you would like to receive a link to the meeting you will need to be current on your membership dues and send me an email at rdekorver@sandy.utah.gov, so we can send you a link when it is available. If you haven’t already done so, please complete your membership renewal on the International’s website. Membership status will be checked prior to the meeting and receiving the link.

As part of the general meeting we will be having our annual elections. If you are interested in running for a board position, which I know a few of you expressed that desire in the survey monkey, please get with a current member of the board to express that desire. Currently we have the 2nd vice, one three year, a two year and two one year board positions that are up for reelection. I hope that many of you will consider taking on the task of helping to move the organization forward. If you have any other items that need to be added to the agenda can you please forward those to me as soon as possible.

With all of this being said I will say that serving as your President and filling board positions along the way has been a humbling experience. There is definitely a lot that goes into this organization and honestly I would be remiss if I did not thank all of the other board members, executive board members and each of the members. Without any of you none of this would have continued as well as it has over the last year during the pandemic. I can’t wait to see everyone again at the conference, so please register and let’s make this the best conference to date.  If there are any comments or concerns or anyway that I can assist you please contact me.

Thank you,
Robert DeKorver

President Utah IAAI
